energy, take 1

My only New Year’s Resolution this year was to find my energy again. I’ve been so tired for so long that the days when I danced and worked and went to school and still had friends seem like a memory of someone else. Here’s the deal:

1. Well, I spent the first week-and-a-half of the new year being miserably sick, so then I decided to start over.

2. Monday was great! and the rest of the week dissolved in a blind frustrated rage after our email server went down and yet another project that started to smell like progress dissipated in the face of duplicated efforts and general buggery.

3. I made appointments with a doctor (to find out if I’m anemic) and my physical therapist (because she’s magical) for later this month.

4. Yesterday I finally made it to a yoga class. I thought it was going to be sort of beginner, but it was not, really. Oof. Woke up sore.

5. Today I downloaded an app for Couch-to-5K. I have zero interest in being a real runner, but I need to come up with some endurance and I don’t want to pay for a gym. I tried the first workout and basically thought I was going to die. Turns out, if you’re looking for an early feeling of accomplishment with this one, you probably shouldn’t start when you’re already sore. But maybe I’ll do it again.

6. Oh god I just want to sleep please let me sleep. But no, I have shit-tons of work to do. I can do it tonight or I can wake at the crack of dawn to do it or I can break promises.

7. And there are 3 cover letters and resumes to pull together, too. Should’ve done these earlier today, but didn’t.

8. Getting money under control to quell the constant anxiety is another part of this plan. I’ve made a budget (a real, realistic one for the first time in my life!) in Mint and so far—with the exception of the unavoidable car repair—I’m staying pretty on-track.

9. Making myself a website I’m proud of was also a piece. When I think about it, it gives me energy.

So to recap: we’re two weeks into the year, and I’ve already made myself a website, built a budget, started on running, applied to 3 or 4 jobs, and planned to find help in solving the energy deficit.

Okay. Regardless of feeling like collapsing right now, that’s not too bad.
